Week 7

This week I aim to continue with some of the work I’d been working on in the previous week, focusing on textures and making different assests to fill the space within the map to really set the scene and make it feel real. As mentioned before I plan on creating a realistic looking scene so it is important to me that I spend quality time on bringing this idea to life.

So far this is one of my favourite assests in which I have worked on. To set the scene for a church I did some research into some of the different elements in which would be found within one such as an altar. With this said I decided to make my own altar where the “priest” would sort out their books and speaches. Down below I have shared some screenshots that I’d taken throughout the process, from modelling in Maya to creating high poly versions in Zbrush and baking and texturing in Substance Painter and then finally exporting all the seperate peices into Unreal Engine. Although it needs a few tweaks I really like the way it turned out.

Although I did all of the texturing using Substance painter I feel as though I could have used some trim sheets for some of the different parts such as the desk in itself and the books. With this being said though I still feel I got the result in which I was aiming for and I feel like the high poly detailing using alphas with the spotlight tool in Zbrush really added to the detail and antique aesthetic that I wanted to achieve. On the right I have put a couple of images of the alpha which I used and the jpeg for the page of the book.

Another one of the main assets in which I want to be seen throughout the church are different medival weapons, I feel as though this will help set the scene as if there has been a fight/war there especially considering the run down broken look I’m aiming for with the walls.
